Giuseppe Rossi interests Sampdoria if Fiorentina pay wages

Sampdoria are interested in signing Giuseppe Rossi but only if Fiorentina cover his wages.

Rossi, 28, is reportedly seeking a loan move in the second half of the season as he looks to rebuild his fitness after having missed the 2014-15 season with a knee injury.

The U.S.-born Italy international has recently been linked with a host of clubs, including Real Betis, Liverpool, Genoa and Bologna, after failing to score in nine Serie A appearances in the current campaign.

Rossi's agent, Andrea Pastorello, played down talk of an exit earlier this month but he has now confirmed to Calciomercato.it that he has talks planned with the club over the striker's situation.

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has said his club would be happy to take Rossi for a spell providing coach Vincenzo Montella agrees, but he warned that Fiorentina would have to subsidise the deal.

"Rossi is a player of great talent, a real champion," Ferrero told Firenzeviola.it in quotes translated by Football Italia.

"If Fiorentina were prepared to pay his wages, I'd gladly bring him here. I'd have to talk it over with Montella first. If he gave the all-clear, then why not?

"It has to be said, we don't want to pay certain sums, but if it's about getting the best out of a player then Samp are more than happy to fill that role. Last season we did a similar thing for Roma with Alessio Romagnoli."

Young centre-back Romagnoli played for Samp on loan last season before Roma sold him to AC Milan for €25 million in the summer.

Ferrero was also asked whether his club would consider offering the Viola an option on Italy midfielder Roberto Soriano as part of the deal, but Ferrero said: "I know that [Fiorentina boss] Paulo Sousa really likes Soriano, but Juventus feel the same way.

"No Samp player is for sale. If he or any of the other players are of interest to clubs, the other presidents must get into contact with me to ask for them."
