Martin Demichelis happy at Man City but 'could think about' Rosario move

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has told ESPN FC he is happy at the club, but has not ruled out a move away from the Etihad Stadium after being linked with a switch back to his native Argentina.

Rosario Central are keen on signing Demichelis in January, sources told ESPN FC last week, as coach Eduardo Coudet looks to be reunited with his former River Plate teammate.

Demichelis has dropped down the City pecking order this season and is currently fourth-choice centre-back in Manuel Pellegrini's plans.

Rosario have targeted Demichelis as they seek a replacement for Alejandro Donatti, who is expected to move to Europe in the New Year.

Demichelis, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is aware of the speculation regarding the interest from Rosario, but said Manchester City will decide his future.

"I heard some things in the press [about Rosario's interest], but not too much," Demichelis told ESPN FC. "Coudet and I have been teammates at River Plate and we had a very good time there.

"I know him, he is doing his first season as a coach and he is doing it very well."

Asked if he would consider a return to Argentina, Demichelis added: "I could think about it, but it doesn't depend on me. From what I know, first Rosario Central has to transfer a central defender that has a European future, then the clubs have to negotiate between themselves.

"I am fine where I am at the moment. If my current team reaches an agreement then I will see in that moment."

Rosario will feature in the Copa Libertadores starting in February and Demichelis said playing in that competition makes Rosario an even more attractive proposition.

"Of course I wouldn't have any problem playing in the Copa Libertadores, but as I said before it doesn't depend on me," he said.

"I have to respect what my club decides. I am under contract at Manchester City, so I suppose if Rosario Central start negotiations they will be considered, but I can't say I want to go there if there doesn't exist an agreement between both clubs.

"The only thing that I can say for the moment is that I am at Manchester City, we have started the season very well so my mind has to be focused on my team."
