Premier League interest in Carlisle hero Mark Gillespie - sources

Leicester City are among a number of clubs tracking Carlisle's Capital One Cup goalkeeping hero Mark Gillespie, sources have told ESPN FC.

Gillespie, 23, produced a man-of-the-match performance to help League Two side Carlisle force Liverpool into a penalty shootout in their cup clash at Anfield on Wednesday.

The keeper restricted Liverpool to one goal, despite the home side having 47 shots on goal, with 16 of those on target as the game ended 1-1.

Gillespie continued his heroics in the penalty shootout keeping out spot-kicks from Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho, although Liverpool prevailed 3-2 after Carlisle missed three of their five penalties.

The former Newcastle youngster was already on the radar of several clubs higher up the football pyramid, but his stunning showing at Anfield has enhanced his reputation after he signed a new one-year contract -- with an option for another season -- with Carlisle in June.

ESPN FC has been told that scouts have been flocking to Brunton Park to cast an eye over Gillespie and the likes of Leicester City, Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion are all weighing up moves in January.
