Alex Song joins West Ham on loan from Barcelona

West Ham United have re-signed Alex Song on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Song, 27, spent the 2014-15 campaign on loan at Upton Park and has been linked with a return to the Premier League club throughout the summer.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic said last month that a deal for the former Arsenal midfielder was agreed and was hopeful the Cameroonian, who underwent surgery this summer to remove a piece of bone from his ankle, would pass a medical.

It had been expected that Song would return to East London on a permanent deal, but the confirmed on Tuesday morning that a loan deal had been completed.

Song told West Ham's official website: "I am very happy. For me it was very important to come back because when I was here I had a great rapport with the fans and the club.

"It was a very easy choice for me to come back here and I'm very happy to be here.

"When I left I didn't know I would come back here. It was not easy but at the end of the day, the most important thing is I'm here now and I'm very happy.

"I feel at home, everything feels at home, for my family too, they're set up very well here. My kids are playing for West Ham academy.

"Everything was in a good place for me to come back here and I'm very happy to be here. It's a pleasure and it's like I never left here. I'm still here and I'm happy.

"This is a new year, new players have come in and we have the new manager. Everything is changing but the way that the Club wants to be, we have to look at the ambition of the club and we have to finish better than we did last year."

West Ham co-owner Gold had earlier said on his Twitter account that West Ham hoped to complete a total of three signings before the close of the window, with Nottingham Forest's Michael Antonio, Chelsea's Victor Moses and Hull's Nikica Jelavic all targets.

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has also been linked.

Song has two years remaining on his contract at Barca, where he has made a total of 34 appearances since joining from Arsenal in a €15 million deal in 2012.
