Papy Djilobodji set to sign for Chelsea in £2.7m deal - sources

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji for a fee of £2.7 million, sources have told ESPN FC.

Djilobodji, 27, can play at centre-back or in a defensive midfield role and is expected to sign a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge once he completes a medical.

The Blues turned their attentions to the Senegal international after failing to persuade Everton to sell their top defensive target John Stones.

With the Toffees refusing to sell the England international, other names -- including Ezequiel Garay of Zenit St Petersburg -- have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but it appears Chelsea are now set to tie up a surprise swoop for Djilobodji.

Nantes have agreed a fee with Chelsea, with the Senegalese in the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 club.

Chelsea announced on Monday night that 18-year-old academy player Jeremie Boga had joined Rennes on a season-long loan.
