Tyler Blackett joins Celtic on loan from Manchester United

Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has joined Celtic on a season-long loan.

Blackett is currently well down the pecking order at Old Trafford and United boss Louis van Gaal was willing to loan him out so that he can get some regular action under his belt.

Celtic confirmed the deal on Saturday, writing on their official website: "Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of Tyler Blackett on a season long loan from Manchester United."

The England under-21 centre-back is highly rated at United and has made 11 first-team appearances after working his way up the youth ranks.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in taking Blackett on loan, but sources told ESPN FC that United felt his development would be best served by going to Celtic as they can offer the defender Europa League football this season.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila had been in the market for defensive reinforcements as doubts continue to surround the future of Virgil van Dijk, who has been strongly linked with Southampton.

United are also set to allow centre-back Jonny Evans to join West Bromwich Albion in a permanent deal, according to reports.
