Stoke City have turned down a £1.5 million Norwich City bid for forward Jonathan Walters, sources have told ESPN FC.

Norwich are in the market for striking reinforcements before the close of the transfer window and have identified former Ipswich player Walters as one of their top targets.

The 31-year-old's future at Stoke has been the subject of speculation this summer. He is in the final year of his contract with the Potters and no new deal has been agreed as yet.

Republic of Ireland international Walters has been in talks for several week, and a number of clubs have been monitoring the situation.

His former manager Tony Pulis is interested in bringing him to West Bromwich Albion, but it is the Canaries who have followed up their interest with a firm bid.

Stoke, however, have turned it down, with manager Mark Hughes keen not to lose any of his players before the window closes.

Walters has started Stoke's opening two Premier League games, but could find himself out of the starting XI at Norwich on Saturday, with summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri pushing for a first start.
