Kevin De Bruyne's Manchester City transfer saga closing on conclusion

Manchester City target Kevin De Bruyne has said the uncertainty surrounding his Wolfsburg future could be resolved "soon."

According to kicker, De Bruyne, 24, wants to leave Wolfsburg, while the football weekly claims City have already bid €60 million for the Belgium international, despite Wolfsburg claiming that they have yet to receive an offer.

"It could very well be that the decision will come soon," De Bruyne told reporters when receiving the Lower Saxony player of the year award.

While on stage, De Bruyne said: "I stay this season with Wolfsburg," but a Wolfsburg spokesperson told kicker that the player was being asked to repeat those words and did not realize their implication when speaking.

Last week, Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs said that the offers had turned De Bruyne's head, but the former Chelsea player has insisted he is focused.

He said: "I think that I am quite clear in the head. But the people and the club have to understand that it's not that easy. I have to consider many things."

Wolfsburg still have not given up hope of convincing the attacker to stay in Germany for another season, and, according to kicker, want to offer him a new contract, with his current deal running until the summer of 2019.

However, also speaking at the award ceremony, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said: "It's going to be a difficult fortnight [until the transfer window closes]. But even should he not continue at Wolfsburg, I wish him all the best."

On Sunday, De Bruyne took to the field for Wolfsburg as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at the Volkswagen Arena.

He was withdrawn after what Hecking called "an average performance" in the 75th minute, having missed only nine minutes of top flight football last season.
