Liverpool turn down Roma bid to bring in defender Mamadou Sakho on loan

Liverpool have rejected Serie A club Roma's bid to take Mamadou Sakho on loan for the season.

The centre-back has fallen behind Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren in the battle for first-team places but manager Brendan Rodgers is not looking to sell him, sources have told ESPN FC.

Skrtel and Lovren look set to be Rodgers' first choices, with Kolo Toure named as the back-up for Sunday's 1-0 Premier League win at Stoke.

Sakho, 25, joined the Reds from Paris Saint-Germain for £18 million in 2013, but his Anfield career has been disrupted by injury.

The France international suffered three separate setbacks last season, limiting his opportunities to make an impression.

After sustaining a thigh problem in late September, he did not play for Liverpool again until Dec. 17.

He then missed a further five matches with a hip injury suffered in February before picking up a hamstring problem in April.

Sakho returned in time for the final match of last season and was part of the side that fell to the Reds' heaviest defeat since 1963 as they lost 6-1 at Stoke.
