Inter Milan hope they will be able to complete a move for Ivan Perisic after Wolfsburg left the winger out of a friendly on Wednesday.

Following the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri to Stoke, the Nerazzurri are firming up their interest in a player who has made it clear he wants to join them.

The Croatia international did not feature for Wolfsburg against Magdeburg in their final warmup game before the Bundesliga season.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs indicated that he believed Perisic, 26, would stay, telling Germany's Sky Sport News: "If it does come to the stage where an offer is made, I really doubt it will be good enough."

But Inter coach Roberto Mancini, however, believes his club can still land their target and told Canale 5: "I'm optimistic. I'm optimistic about that and many other things."

Inter, who banked £12 million from the sale of Shaqiri, are likely to have to pay around the same figure to have any chance of singing Perisic, who still has two years left on his contract.
