Manchester United target Pedro should follow his heart - Dani Alves

Dani Alves hopes Manchester United target Pedro remains at Barcelona but accepts the decision is in his teammate's hands.

Pedro, 28, could join United before the close of the transfer window on Sept. 2 as a replacement for Angel Di Maria, who signed for Paris Saint-Germain last week.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night's UEFA Super Cup meeting with Sevilla, right-back Alves said in the Evening Standard: "Ultimately the decisions don't come to me, they are for other people.

"The more people interfere, the harder the decision is. Of course if I had to make the decision it would be for him to stay here for many more years.

"It's down to him and his heart but if he stays we'll be delighted, if not we'll respect his decision.

"If you feel you're not wanted at a club you have to go. Let's hope he doesn't make that decision."

On Sunday, Thierry Henry said Barcelona forward Pedro will be a better signing for United than Di Maria.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique dismissed talk of a possible transfer for Pedro during the final news conference before the meeting with Sevilla, saying that "we have already spoke about Pedro too much."
