Arsenal not targeting Real Madrid's Karim Benzema - Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has dismissed fresh reports Arsenal are lining up a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Arsenal have been linked with Benzema, 27, for some time despite repeated denials from all parties.

Madrid-based newspaper AS reported on its front cover on Sunday that Arsenal had set aside €65 million to sign the France international, who is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2019.

However, Wenger said: "No, nothing is happening. Honestly, no. I don't know who brings that up. Is it Spanish media or English media? I don't know."

Theo Walcott started in the Arsenal attack for Sunday's 1-0 Community Shield victory over Chelsea, with Olivier Giroud later coming off the bench.

Wenger, who was without Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez for the game, said he would experiment with different strikers depending on the opposition.

"It depends on the games," he said. "I tried to see the options I have through the season. I felt today that I wanted to use Theo's pace to go in behind. In the first half he worked very hard, didn't get too much service, but he worked very hard.

"In the second half, when Giroud came on, I think he gave us a physical presence that was needed at that time as well."
