Everton want Swansea's Ashley Williams if John Stones exits - sources

Everton are weighing up a move for Swansea defender Ashley Williams should John Stones leave Goodison Park this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Chelsea have targeted Stones from Everton and, despite seeing two bids rejected, the Premier League champions remain confident of landing the England international.

Although Everton insist they have no plans to sell Stones, the player is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, and ESPN FC has been told that they are drawing up contingency plans in case he departs.

Roberto Martinez is a huge admirer of the Wales captain having signed the centre-back during his time in charge of Swansea, and he views Williams as a potential replacement.

However, it is likely to prove difficult to sign the 30-year-old.

Crystal Palace have also shown an interest in Williams, but appear to have been priced out of a move, and Swansea boss Garry Monk told talkSPORT: "Ash will be here. He'll be here with Swansea.

"For the past six or seven years he's been linked with a team in the summer, and whether that's actual interest or driven by the papers and agents, I don't know, but Ash is very committed to the club.

"He's our captain and he's captain of Wales as well. It's a big year for him with qualification coming up with his country.

"I don't think he'll want to do anything that unsettles him, I think he'll want to give himself the best chance to qualify with Wales and have a good season with Swansea as well.

"I know he's looking forward to it and is fully focused on the season ahead with Swansea."
