Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado a target for Villarreal - Marcelino

Villarreal coach Marcelino has confirmed his interest in signing Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado.

Soldado, 30, has scored just seven times in 51 appearances since moving to north London from Valencia two years ago, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be willing to let him go.

The Spain international cost Spurs £26 million, and Marca has reported that they now want £12m for him.

The paper reported Villarreal coach Marcelino as saying: "He is a footballer who is very capable.

"The fact that he has lacked regular playing time and has not had the confidence of his team in the past two seasons may have affected his performances.

"But it's difficult for one who has always scored goals to forget how to do so. We want strikers that can increase the team level and can add more competitiveness to our group."

Soldado, who scored 59 goals in 101 appearances over his three seasons at Valencia, is under contract with Tottenham until summer 2017.

Villarreal need to strengthen their attacking options after selling Argentinian forward Luciano Vietto to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.
