Inter boss Roberto Mancini plays down Zlatan Ibrahimovic speculation

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has played down speculation Zlatan Ibrahimovic could return to the club this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain star Ibrahimovic, 33, has been linked with a move back to AC Milan this summer but the Corriere dello Sport newspaper has reported in recent days that their city rivals are also battling for the Sweden international's signature.

Mancini, who coached Ibrahimovic during his previous spell with the Nerazzurri, said he would like to sign the striker but does not expect him to leave PSG this summer.

"Ibra is a great player -- in the last 10 years he has missed out on just one league title [the 2011-12 season at AC Milan] -- but that doesn't mean he's coming back to Inter," he told reporters.

"Everyone would want him, he is one of the best in the world, but he's at a great club in PSG and is unlikely to leave."

He added: "With him Milan could become a team ready to win the scudetto."

Inter have already had a busy summer in the transfer market, bringing in Geoffrey Kondogbia, Miranda, Jonathan BiabianyJeison Murillo and Martin Montoya.

Xherdan Shaqiri has rejected three offers to leave Inter Milan.

That is set to mean an exit for former Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, with the Switzerland international left out of the squad for the 4-3 friendly victory over Stuttgart Kickers on Saturday.

"Shaqiri is a bit fatigued," Mancini said. "Unfortunately the 25-man limit will mean some players have to leave."

Inter accepted a bid for Shaqiri from Stoke but the player turned down the move, and he has also been linked with Bundesliga sides Wolfsburg and Schalke.

Asked whether he was unhappy that the 23-year-old had turned down offers to leave, Mancini said: "No. You have to be happy with your destination. It's always tough to leave Inter and I'm not annoyed with the rejection of three teams."

Everton have more recently been linked with Shaqiri.
