Galatasaray target Lukas Podolski is leaving Arsenal this summer - agent

Lukas Podolski will leave Arsenal this summer after Arsene Wenger was unable to guarantee him a starting role, the forward's agent has confirmed as he nears a move to Galatasaray.

Podolski, 30, failed to start a single Premier League game for the Gunners last season, making just seven appearances off the bench before struggling on loan for the second half of the season with Inter in Serie A.

The Germany international had announced that he was open for offers from Turkey after Galatasaray sporting director Cuneyt Tanman made public that the club was interested in him.

German paper Bild reports that Podolski will leave Arsenal to join Galatasaray, with the World Cup winner expected to sign a contract until 2018 with the Turkish champions.

Podolski's agent Nassim Touihri told Bild: "We had good talks with Wenger. He wanted to keep Lukas at Arsenal but could not guarantee him a starting position. That's why we agreed to make a transfer."

The paper reports that Galatasaray will pay €4 million to release Podolski from his Arsenal contract, and that the player will earn €5m net plus extras in Istanbul.

At Galatasaray, Podolski also has the chance to prove himself in the Champions League.

German national coach Joachim Low had told the forward that he needs regular playing time next season in order to be picked for Die Nationalmannschaft at Euro 2016 and add to his 125 caps.
