Manchester United target Bastian Schweinsteiger hints at Bayern stay

Bastian Schweinsteiger has suggested he plans to stay at Bayern Munich despite interest from Manchester United.

Schweinsteiger, 30, has one year remaining on his contract and has said he will hold talks with Bayern this summer to determine whether he will stay on or move to Old Trafford.

It now appears that he has decided to stay at Bayern as he targets a fourth consecutive Bundesliga title with the club at which he began his career.

"I would like to win the Champions League again and play as successfully as we did in the last few years," he told Sport1. "We have been champions for three consecutive years and I believe that no team has won the title four years in a row. That is a motivation."

Honorary Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer has said Schweinsteiger should stay at Bayern "for another year or two" before moving to America to play in Major League Soccer, but the Germany captain said: "I feel good and am ready to play the next three years at the top level. That is my aim."

Schweinsteiger will turn 31 in August but does not think it has put him at a disadvantage, saying: "You gain experience year by year. You learn to judge situations and act on them."

He said he remains determined to win more silverware, despite having added the 2014 World Cup to his long list of successes with Bayern, which include the 2013 Champions League.

"If you have won big titles like the Champions League or the World Cup, people tend to say you're not hungry anymore, but that is absolutely not the case," he said.

"Euro 2016 is a big goal for me and for the whole of Germany. These are the goals you work for."
