Bas Dost should snub Newcastle transfer - Wolfsburg coach

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking has advised Bas Dost to stay at the club despite reported interest from Newcastle United.

Dost has been linked with Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund since Wolfsburg signed striker Max Kruse from Borussia Monchengladbach.

"Why should he go to Newcastle?" asked Hecking in Wolfsburger Allgemeine. "He can play Champions League with us. He won't be able to do that at Newcastle in the upcoming years."

Hecking wants to keep the squad together that won the DFB Pokal and finished second in the Bundesliga, adding: "We don't want to sell anybody."

The manager is sure that Dost, who scored 16 goals in 21 appearances last season, can play an important role at Wolfsburg next campaign.

"If he stays he will score more goals than last season," Hecking said.

Meanwhile, centre-back Joel Matip, another reported Newcastle target, will stay at Schalke, according to sporting director Horst Heldt.

Heldt told derwesten.de: "Joel Matip does not want to go to Newcastle. He wants to stay at Schalke.

"It was out of the question for him to make a move away from Schalke."

Matip's current contract runs out in 2016, and Heldt added: "We did not negotiate about a new contract for him yet."
