Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour open to move to bigger club

Aymen Abdennour has opened the door to a move away from Monaco by welcoming interest from bigger clubs.

Abdennour, 25, was one of Monaco's star performers en route to their Champions League quarterfinal defeat to Juventus, confirming the talent many have seen in the Tunisia international in recent seasons.

The centre-back has been linked to Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Liverpool, Juve and Inter Milan, and with Monaco seeking to sell a number of first-team stars to lower their wage bill and reduce the risk of financial fair play penalties, Abdennour would happily move on.

"It's certain that you can always go higher, and that I would love to play in big clubs like that. Why not leave if I can improve still further?" said the former Toulouse defender told L'Equipe.

"Things are clear for me. I have a contract through to 2019. It's not up to me to decide whether I stay or not, it's the president. I'm already at a big club."

Abdennour said that he had not been contacted directly, but did say his agents are in "advanced talks with several clubs."

Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim recently told L'Equipe he could lose "five or six" first-team regulars with Abdennour considered to be among them.

"I don't think everyone is going to leave," Abdennour added. "I am ready for anything. If a club that you can't turn down comes along, I trust my president and my sporting director.

"They know me, I won't put pressure on them. We respect each other, we work together like a family."
