Barcelona defender Marc Bartra confirms €12m release clause

Barcelona centre-back Marc Bartra has confirmed his release clause has dropped to €12 million due to his lack of appearances last season.

Spain international Bartra's previous clause had been set at €25 million but, under the terms of his contract, that has been reduced after a campaign in which he made only 14 La Liga appearances.

The 24-year-old confirmed the news to Radio Marca and added: "We'll see how the situation develops."

Bartra found himself behind Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu under Luis Enrique last season, while Thomas Vermaelen -- who spent the vast majority of the season on the sidelines -- will also be competing for a place next season.

Barca were unable to prevent Thiago Alcantara joining Bayern Munich for €25 million in 2013 as the result of a similar clause.
