Chelsea tracking QPR striker Charlie Austin - sources

Chelsea are among a number of clubs weighing up a move for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, sources have told ESPN FC.

Jose Mourinho has admitted he is planning to bring in a new striker this summer and Austin is thought to figure on his wanted list.

Chelsea are in the market for striking reinforcements following the departure of Didier Drogba, while there has speculation that Loic Remy could move on this summer with West Ham and Crystal Palace linked with the Frenchman.

A number of names, including Radamel Falcao and Gonzalo Higuain have been linked with Chelsea, but sources have told ESPN FC that Chelsea are monitoring Austin's situation at Loftus Road.

Austin is thought to have impressed Mourinho during the two meetings between the clubs last season, with Austin scoring in the Rs' narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a stunning debut season in the Premier League, scoring 18 goals to make him the second-highest goal-scoring Englishman behind Tottenham's Harry Kane.

Austin's goal-scoring exploits earned him international recognition with the striker winning his first England callup for last weekend's friendly with Republic of Ireland and the Euro 2016 qualifier with Slovenia on Sunday.

QPR are resigned to losing Austin this summer following their relegation with Newcastle, Aston Villa and Southampton all admirers of the player.

Chelsea believe Austin could prove a valuable addition to the squad next season by providing cover and competition for Diego Costa, and he would also boost the club's home-grown quota.
