Manchester City are weighing up a move for former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Alex Song, sources have told ESPN FC.
Song is currently back at Barcelona after ending a successful season-long loan spell at West Ham this term.
The defensive midfielder impressed early on at West Ham as the club were in the top six up until Christmas before they slipped away in the second half of the season. However, West Ham were unable to make Song's move permanent, leaving the midfielder facing an uncertain future.
The Cameroon international is expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer as he is well down the pecking order in Luis Enrique's midfield. While Song has been at Upton Park, Barca have secured a domestic double and could add the Champions League to that haul if they beat Juventus in Berlin on Saturday.
Meanwhile, City are short of homegrown players with Frank Lampard leaving for New York City FC and Scott Sinclair turning his loan at Aston Villa into a permanent deal.
James Milner, Micah Richards and Dedryck Boyata -- the latter to Celtic -- are also expected to leave the Etihad this summer which sees City facing an issue to meet the homegrown regulations.
Song qualifies as homegrown as he joined Arsenal as a 17-year-old from Bastia and played three years in the UK before turning 21.
City are thought to have made enquiries over the player's availability as City are in the market for midfield reinforcements with Lampard leaving and doubts surrounding Milner's future.
