David De Gea must make decision on Man United future - Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has called on David De Gea to tell Manchester United if he is going to commit his future to the club.

The goalkeeper, who is reportedly wanted by Real Madrid, has been offered a new contract at Old Trafford.

But he is yet to reveal his intentions and Van Gaal, who said last week that he felt powerless to persuade De Gea to remain but then claimed on Friday he believed the Spain international would opt to carry on at United, is keen to discover his intentions.

The United manager told the BBC: "I cannot say when it [De Gea's future] will be resolved. He has to say something."

Van Gaal wants to proceed with his plans in the transfer market but is unsure yet if the goalkeeping position will be a priority. Petr Cech's agent said the Chelsea veteran would be interested in a move to Old Trafford if there is a vacancy.

With De Gea injured, Victor Valdes made his first United start in Sunday's 0-0 draw at Hull and made some fine saves, while looking less convincing on crosses.

"In stopping the balls, he had a very good game. He also let go of the ball and we got lucky," Van Gaal added in his news conference at the KC Stadium.

The Dutchman has held a series of meetings with his players in the last few days to tell them if they form part of his plans and Radamel Falcao, who has spent the season on loan at Old Trafford, has returned to Monaco after being informed he does not have a future at the club.

Van Gaal is going away to his villa in Portugal on Monday but hopes United's transfer business can proceed in his absence.

They are set to tie up a deal for PSV Eindhoven's £25 million winger Memphis Depay and are likely to pursue a forward, a midfielder, a central defender and a right-back.

"I go on holiday but I have contact with [executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward every day as he is doing the negotiations," Van Gaal said.

"We know now who has to go and which players we want to bring in, but that is a process, so you never know. These things are dependable on different parties -- the club, the player and Manchester United of course. It shall be a heavy [busy] holiday."
