PSV Eindhoven sign Mexico defender Andres Guardado to 3-year deal

PSV Eindhoven officially signed Mexico defender Andres Guardado to a three-year deal, the club confirmed on Friday.

Guardado has been on loan to the newly crowned Dutch Eredivisie champions for the past year from Spanish club Valencia. In March, the two clubs reached an agreement for the player's transfer on a permanent basis with PSV announcing that the club would pay the transfer fee to Valencia. Guardado had one year remaining on his contract with Valencia. Terms were not disclosed.

"This was a very important move for me and my career and something I was waiting a long time for," Guardado said. "This was a complete year in all ways. The great thing about football is that there are always new challenges and I hope that next year we can match this one."

At 28, the Guadalajara native is the oldest regular starter at the club, which won its first title league title in seven years.

"I have had the luck to play Champions League and it is a dream, I hope that next year we can demonstrate that we can compete across Europe," said the former Atlas player, who left Mexico for Deportivo La Coruna in 2007. "I would like to thank the fans for the way they have received me."
