PSG, Liverpool ahead of Man United in Memphis Depay race - PSV director

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United in their attempts to sign Memphis Depay, PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands has said.

Brands told Fox Sports that PSG and Liverpool have pursued their interest in the Netherlands international, whereas United have only made initial contact and Bayern Munich have not expressed an interest.

Newly crowned Dutch champions PSV have said that they expect Depay, the top scorer in the Eredivisie, to leave this summer.

United manager Louis van Gaal gave Depay his international debut and selected the winger in his squad for last summer's World Cup, when Netherlands finished third, but Brands said others have done more to try to recruit the 21-year-old.

"They [PSG and Liverpool] are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United," he said. "They [United] have only informed us about their interest."

He said that the list of clubs interested in the player has grown but added: "Bayern Munich, despite what I've read, are not one of them."

He added: "It is only logical that there is so much interest in him. Memphis is enormously effective for a young player. He should be very proud."

Depay has said it would be "fantastic" to make a big-money move this summer, adding: "It is a dream to make a transfer with such a big impact, but I already said: there is a lot of speculation and a lot of stories, but I don't know how things will work out, so let's wait and see."

Tottenham saw a €20 million offer for Depay rejected last summer and he is expected to cost at least €30m after scoring 27 goals this season.
