Liverpool monitoring Neil Taylor situation at Swansea - sources

Liverpool are among a number of Premier League clubs monitoring Neil Taylor's contract situation at Swansea City, sources have told ESPN FC.

Taylor has just over one year to run on his contract at Swansea and no new deal has been agreed as yet.

The left-back has established himself as one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League since helping the club win promotion back to the top flight in 2011, and he has missed only one game this season.

Taylor, who has said he will make a decision on his future at the end of the season, almost left during the January transfer window when Crystal Palace and West Brom made bids for his services.

West Brom remain interested in Taylor, while ESPN FC has been told that Aston Villa and Newcastle are both readying moves for the Wales international in the summer.

However, Liverpool are also actively keeping tabs on Taylor with Brendan Rodgers a huge admirer of the 26-year-old having worked with him during his time in charge of Swansea.

Rodgers considered signing Taylor when he first took over at Anfield in the summer of 2012 before the defender suffered a broken ankle at the start of the 2012-13 season that forced him out of action for a lengthy period.

Liverpool will be in the market for defensive reinforcements again this summer with Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson expected to leave at the end of the season and, with Taylor entering the final year of his contract, he could be available for just £3 million if Swansea do not tie him down to a new long-term deal.

However, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has told the South Wales Evening Post he is keen to agree an extension with the player as soon as possible.

"That needs to be looked at between now and the summer -- it's an obvious one for us to sort out," Jenkins said. "With Neil, this is the first time for a long time that he has had a good run of games, and it always takes players time to get up to speed.

"As the season has gone on and Neil has played more games, I think we have seen that he is getting back to his best. That is great for Neil and great for us as a club.

"I talk to his agent regularly. There are ongoing discussions and we'll see where they take us."
