Newly-crowned S.League champions DPMM eye Singapore Cup final

Fresh from winning their first ever Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League title, Brunei DPMM FC are now looking to move one step closer to a double when they face off with Home United on Tuesday.

DPMM were crowned S.League champions on Saturday after a 4-0 triumph over Balestier Khalsa at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium saw them finish four points ahead of second-placed Tampines Rovers.

Although it was a monumental achievement for the Bruneian side, it appears that they are not fully satisfied with their 2015 accomplishments. They are back in action on Tuesday when they lock horns with Home in the second leg of their RHB Singapore Cup semi-final, with a 3-2 aggregate lead from the first encounter last month.

And while his charges are still riding on the high from their league triumph, DPMM coach Steve Kean insists a double is firmly in their sights.

"We aren't finished yet," he said. "There's still another competition to play for and we have every intention on winning the Singapore Cup as well."

Kean did, however, bemoan the fact that Home will have significantly more time to prepare for the clash, having played their final league game against Courts Young Lions six days before DPMM's win over Balestier.

The Scot added: "What I thought should have been done was for Home to have played their final match on the same night.

"Now, they've had plenty more time to recover and prepare for the game while we're heading into the match with just two days of break.

"But we'll still be bringing a full squad and it will be our strongest team that will be playing."

There will also be no shortage of motivation on the part of the Protectors as they look to finish off a rollercoaster season on a positive note. Although they produced some excellent displays in 2015, they finished only sixth in the league.

But winning the Singapore Cup would not only provide silverware, but also a much-desired spot in next year's AFC Cup.

Both sides have been unable to be separated in their league meetings this year, starting with a 2-2 draw in March which was followed by a 0-0 stalemate in July, before the thrilling 4-4 draw at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium last month.

DPMM did, however, claim the slimmest of victories in the first leg of their last four tie after coming from behind to win courtesy of Rafael Ramazotti's 86th-minute winner, with Paulo Sergio and Azwan Ali also on target that evening.
