Young Lions' Webb promises Sultan of Selangor Cup fireworks

Courts Young Lions' forward Jordan Webb has vowed to put on a show when the Singapore Selection side take on Selangor FA in the 2015 Sultan of Selangor Cup on Saturday night.

This glitzy fixture on the S.League and Malaysian football calendar is into its 14th edition, with the Singapore team, guided by LionsXII coach Fandi Ahmad, aiming to win the Cup back for the Republic.

Selangor lifted the coveted trophy last year when a Paulo Rangel double powered the Malaysian outfit to a 2-1 victory, with Singapore's goal coming from Geylang International forward Leonel Felice.

This year, Webb will be one of five S.League players to turn out for Singapore, with the other 15 coming from the LionsXII in a 20-man squad.

Tampines Rovers' Brazilian forward Rodrigo Tosi will join the Young Lions' quartet of Syazwan Buhari, M. Anumanthan, Sherif El-Masri and Webb in Singapore's attack-minded lineup.

"Hopefully, we will win the game." Webb told ESPN FC. "I am sure all of us players will try our hardest to get it (the Cup) back because that is what you play the game for. To win and to keep winning."

Having provided five goals and seven assists in 13 matches for Young Lions this year, the Canadian forward, with a love of the spectacular, has proven to be one of the more creative players in the S.League, becoming a fan favourite.

"To play in front of a 50,000 crowd will be massive. It'll be a great atmosphere and everyone wants to play these games," said the 27-year-old. "If I get onto the pitch, I will definitely try and put on a show for the fans at the stadium."

Together with 2014 S.League top scorer Tosi, and his Young Lions teammate El-Masri, the trio provides an exciting attacking prospect for Singapore fans.

Add the LionsXII attackers Sahil Suhaimi, Faris Ramli, Safuwan Baharudin and Shahdan Sulaiman to the mix, and Selangor coach Mehmet Durakovic may find it hard to stop the visitors.

Despite having never played in the same side as most of his Cup teammates, apart from his Young Lions' teammates, the flamboyant winger is confident that whoever gets the nod to play will have no problem fitting into the system.

"I have never played with Safuwan, Tosi and pretty much all of them before," he said. "But that shouldn't be a problem for us because they (LionsXII) play a similar style of football to the Courts Young Lions so it should work out well."

And in his usual confident fashion, Webb made his way onto the pitch, without answering the question of whether he has any special goal celebration planned. "I can't tell you that," he said with a grin. "You'll have to wait and see for yourself."
