Protectors in good shape ahead of SG Cup blockbuster against DPMM

Home United are in good form as they look to move one step closer to winning the RHB Singapore Cup by seeing off Brunei DPMM FC in this week's semifinals.

On the back of a ten-game undefeated run in all competitions, the Protectors face off against DPMM at the Jalan Besar Stadium in the first leg of their last-four tie on Tuesday, with the return encounter scheduled three days later at the Yishun Stadium.

Despite their excellent recent form, their progress has been hampered in recent weeks by the haze currently engulfing Singapore and the region.

First, their Great Eastern Yeo's S.League meeting with Geylang International was postponed due to unplayable conditions two weeks ago, before last Wednesday's game against Tampines Rovers was called off as the Protectors were in possession of a 2-1 lead at the break.

Still, Home coach Philippe Aw believes there were many positives from that display which will bodes well for them as they look to see off DPMM in the coming week.

"We have these two huge cup matches coming up and if had beaten Tampines, of course it would have been a big boost for us," he said.

"But we can still take heart from the way we had played and were on course for victory.

"Now, we'll go into the Singapore Cup semi-finals looking to give DPMM two very tough games and hopefully it'll be us that progress."

Should Home reach the final, it is shaping up to be an extremely hectic period for them as the 2015 season reaches its climax, especially given that they will have to replay their two matches against Geylang and Tampines.

Nonetheless, Aw believes the Protectors will be well equipped to handle the challenge, having dealt with a fixture pileup for much of the season. He added: "This season, our fixtures have been this way. On several occasions, we've had to play two games in four days so the players are all used to it. We'll be ready for it when it comes."

Both sides have met twice already in the league this season and have canceled each other out on both occasions.

Home grabbed a late equaliser to force a 2-2 draw at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium back in March, before the two teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Yishun Stadium in July.
