Tampines boss Sundram wary of Harimau Muda threat in S.League

Head coach V. Sundramoorthy has warned Tampines Rovers that they cannot afford to be complacent when they take on Harimau Muda in the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League.

Tampines, fifth on the table, will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they entertain the Young Tigers at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday night.

With last Thursday's game against Albirex Niigata (S) postponed due to severe haze, it means the upcoming match will be Tampines' first in three weeks.

They also faced Harimau Muda in their last outing and recorded a 1-0 victory on that occasion, courtesy of Rodrigo Tosi's 75th-minute winner.

Although they once again enter Tuesday's clash as favourites, Sundramoorthy insists it is imperative his players do not underestimate their Malaysian opponents.

"Harimau Muda may be a young team but they have caused a lot of upsets already this season," he told ESPN FC.

"They've beaten teams like Warriors FC, Albirex and Home United and they certainly cannot be taken lightly.

"Given they're all young boys, we know they are full of energy and will be running non-stop for 90 minutes."

Having entered 2015 widely regarded as favourites for the title, the Stags have struggled for consistency and currently find themselves 10 points behind leaders Brunei DPMM FC.

However, with one third of the campaign still to go, Tampines are not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

"For us, we want to continue taking things one game at a time," Sundramoorthy added.

"For now, it's important that we get the three points against Harimau Muda and maintain our chase towards the top of the table."

Sundramoorthy will be hoping his attackers finally manage to fire, given their woes in front of goal all season long.

Despite boasting the likes of Rodrigo Tosi, Mateo Roskam, Noh Alam Shah and Indra Sahdan Daud, Tampines have managed to score only 20 goals in 16 matches -- the fourth-worst tally in the competition.

Meanwhile, Young Tigers boss Razip Ismail will be challenging his charges to build some momentum following a recent slump in form.

After an impressive run saw them win five out of seven matches from April to July, they have struggled in recent weeks and have been beaten in five of their last six outings.

Nonetheless, their last victory was a 2-0 triumph away to defending champions Warriors, which will give them plenty of confidence that they can once again cause an upset at Jalan Besar.
