Tampines aim to bring S.League campaign on track vs. Harimau Muda

Tampines Rovers will be looking to end a poor run of form when they visit Harimau Muda in Wednesday's Great Eastern Yeo's S.League clash at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Despite entering 2015 as heavy favourites to win the title, the Stags have struggled to fire on all cylinders and are currently fifth on the table, 10 points behind leaders Brunei DPMM FC.

The past few weeks have been forgettable as they have won just one of their past five games across all competitions, having been eliminated from the quarterfinals of the RHB Singapore Cup in the process.

Surprisingly, for a side boasting plenty of firepower in the likes of Rodrigo Tosi, Mateo Roskam and Roberto Alviz, Tampines have the fourth worst attack in the competition with just 19 goals from 15 matches.

While he admits that lack of goals has been their main problem this year, Tampines boss V. Sundramoorthy insists they continue to retain belief that the campaign can still be salvaged.

"We have a good team this season and the players are trying their best but the final product is not there," he said. "We can't score the goals and get the points.

"But we have the belief and we just need to get a win to get back on track, so we need to beat Harimau Muda in our next game."

Tampines do have an excellent record against the Malaysian side, having beaten them in both their league meetings in 2014 with 3-2 and 1-0 victories.

However, on Wednesday, they will be coming up against a team brimming with confidence following a stunning 2-0 triumph over reigning champions Warriors FC last Sunday.

Goals from Syahrul Azwari and S. Kumaahran handed the Young Tigers maximum points, but several others like Adam Nor Azlin, Nazirul Naim and Amirul Hisyam were also impressive.

Having seen his side claim a number of scalps already this season, including 1-0 triumphs over Albirex Niigata (S) and Home United, Harimau Muda coach Razip Ismail insists it is now time for them to build on these results.

"The main problem for us this season has been our consistency. We have not been able to maintain our momentum," he said.

"This comes with being a young and inexperienced side, but I hope we can continue at the same level of performance as against Warriors.

"If we go all out, we know we can get a least a draw against such strong teams and maybe even beat them."
