DPMM banking on potent attack to finish off SG Cup tie against Tampines

Brunei DPMM will travel to Jurong West Stadium on Thursday night looking to seal their progress in the RHB Singapore Cup against Tampines Rovers.

A 3-1 victory on Monday in the first leg of their quarterfinal, put Steve Kean's men in a commanding position and they will be confident of making the semifinals, as they did last year.

Kean has warned that the tie is "not finished", but is confident that his charges will be able to finish the job.

The Scot deployed a new midfield diamond formation in the first leg at Jalan Besar Stadium, with usual targetman Rafael Ramazotti in the hole behind Shahrazen Said and Azwan Ali.

The trio kept switching positions throughout the match and both Azwan and Ramazotti got on the scoresheet. The former has three goals and nine assists in all competitions this season, while the latter has a remarkable 17 goals and three assists.

Kean will be hoping that his high-scoring attackers can deliver the goods again when they take to the Jurong West field.

"We know that we've got a very potent attack with Ramazotti and Shahrazen; we've also got Azwan Ali, who can play behind the strikers and on the left, he's a wonderful technician," he asserted. "We know that if we can get good service we'll finish off the game.

"The news that another attacker, Paulo Sergio, might be back in time for the second leg will not be welcomed by Tampines.

"We may even have Sergio back, he's got a small hamstring [injury]," Kean revealed, though he cautioned: "I would never rush somebody from a hamstring back, he's a very explosive player. He's a wonderful player."

Meanwhile, V. Sundramoorthy will be working hard on his team's focus and concentration to ensure that they do not give up early goals again.

Tampines allowed their opponents to score within the fifth and third minutes of the first and second half respectively, which left them chasing the game and leaving gaps at the back.

They will also miss midfield playmaker Roberto Alviz, who has eight assists this season, thanks to a red card in the first leg. The more attacking-minded Aqhari Abdullah is likely to come in for him as Sundramoorthy goes for the goals needed to overturn the tie, while Ismadi Mukhtar and Fabian Kwok return from suspension to boost his options.

"We are still in the Cup, they boys are professionals and they will turn up and fight. We need to score goals, we will push and attack," he declared, refusing to give up. "The other players will have to come in and do the job for us."

There was a brief scuffle between both sides at the end of the first leg as tensions boiled over, but Keann is adamant his side will not be distracted.

"Probably [it will carry over],if I'm being honest, but we'lll just play our football," he stated.
