Sundram demands focus from Stags against DPMM in SG Cup clash

Nine days after they clashed in the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League, Brunei DPMM and Tampines Rovers will lock horns once again on Monday night.

This time, it will be in the quarterfinals of the RHB Singapore Cup and both teams will be looking to exceed their achievement of reaching the semifinals last year.

V. Sundramoorthy will be hoping for his charges to recover from their recent 2-1 defeat to Warriors FC in the league, where they let slip a lead in the closing stages of the game largely down to the brilliance of Miroslav Pejic.

The former Singapore international said after that game that they should have closed down their opponents better, but urged his team to "accept the defeat" and move on.

Such sloppy defending could prove costly against the Bruneians at the Jalan Besar Stadium -- in fact, it already did in the 1-1 draw last time, where they conceded a soft goal after just five minutes.

As such, Sundramoorthy is wary of repeating their costly mistakes and urged the Stags to maintain their concentration for the entire game.

"We need to keep focused until the final whistle," he exhorted. "We need to watch the video [analysis] to see where things went wrong and try to work on it, and then move on. That's the best we can do."

The first leg Cup clash does give Tampines, three-time champions as well as runners-up, the opportunity to win a crown that has eluded them since 2006.

"This is another game in the Singapore Cup; it will be interesting when we play DPMM and I think the boys will be motivated to come and win this Cup," Sundram said.

Sundram will be encouraged by their display in the 1-1 draw against the Wasps last time out -- a game he stated afterwards that they should have won.

He will have to do without suspended duo Ismadi Mukhtar and Fabian Kwok, although Mateo Roskam should be restored to the starting lineup.

The Croatian has scored five goals in his last four league games and will be looking to inflict further damage on DPMM after grabbing the equaliser in their previous encounter.

Meanwhile, Steve Kean's side enter this game having snapped a five-game win-less run with victory over Geylang International in mid-week.

Rafael Ramazotti and Azwan Ali make up one of the most fearsome attacking duos while Joseph Gamble's return will be a considerable boost to Kean's team who are set to miss former Sporting Lisbon winger Paulo Sergio, out through injury.

DPMM's fourth-place finish last year -- they lost to Tampines in the third-place play-off -- was their best finish in the competition's history and they will be keen to build on that this time round.
