S.League: Raab wants Young Lions to be clinical against Warriors

Courts Young Lions coach Juergen Raab admits his charges cannot afford to be wasteful in Thursday's Great Eastern Yeo's S.League clash against Warriors FC.

The Young Lions face a tough test at the Woodlands Stadium as they bid to claim their second win of the campaign against the defending champions, who are currently top of the table.

However, despite a 3-1 loss to Hougang United on Monday, Raab believes there are enough reasons to be happy with his team's first outing since the Southeast Asian Games.

"We have six matches over an 18-day period, and with our squad not being as big, it's not easy," he said. "The important thing now is that the players know what they have to deliver on, and I thought that was done very well (against Hougang).

"We played good football for 90 minutes with build-up and ball possession. Also, we created seven or eight clear chances but you have to score if you are to be deserving of the win.

"That is one of the things that we have to work on because we have not scored quite enough goals throughout the season.

"It's something we'll have to continue working on in training... when you do so well in most aspects of the match, you need to finish it off to get a positive result."

Apart from missing a couple of gilt-edged opportunities, the Young Lions' defence were caught out twice inside the opening 20 minutes to allow Hougang to claim a 2-0 lead through goals from set-pieces.

A repeat of that will almost certainly be punished by the Warriors on Thursday, especially when they will be up against the league's most potent strike force at the moment.

Since joining from Sabah in April, Singapore international Fazrul Nawaz has been a real revelation with eight goals to his name, which is only three less than Brunei DPMM FC's goal machine Rafael Ramazotti.

Aside from Fazrul, Warriors boss Alex Weaver can also call upon Nicolas Velez and Miroslav Pejic, two of the deadliest foreign attackers in the competition last season that have also continued their good form in 2015.

Warriors FC Probable Lineup: Daniel Ong, Syaqir Sulaiman, Daniel Bennett, Marin Vidosevic, Irwan Shah, Karlo Ivancic, Kevin McCann, Hafiz Rahim, Miroslav Pejic, Nicolas Velez, Fazrul Nawaz

Courts Young Lions Probable Lineup: Syazwan Buhari, Fadli Kamis, Sheikh Abdul Hadi, Amirul Adli, Farhan Rahmat, M. Anumanthan, Afiq Noor, Jordan Webb, Adam Swandi, Sherif El-Masri, Amy Recha
