S.League: Home star Ilso set for possible return against Tampines

Home United will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Jurong West Stadium to face Tampines Rovers on Sunday night.

The Protectors ended a miserable run of four games without a victory in style by thumping win-less Hougang United 4-0 on Thursday, having failed to score throughout that period.

Their attack is likely to be further boosted by the return of star forward Ken Ilso Larsen, who is the club's joint-top scorer with four goals along with Kamel Ramdani.

The Dane, who has played in the German Bundesliga, struck in each of his first four matches as he hit the ground running in his debut campaign for the Protectors.

Unfortunately, Ilso then missed the following seven games due to injury. His absence corresponded with Home's slump in form, as they struggled to fill his boots.

However, Ilso featured on the bench against the Cheetahs and was available to come on, though coach Philippe Aw eventually chose not to do so.

When asked whether Ilso could start against the Stags, the latter remained coy.

"We'll see," Aw remarked, before explaining that he did not want to risk his talisman on a cut-up pitch at Yishun Stadium.

"Looking at the pitch condition, it was not good for him to run on this field [as it would have been] very difficult for him to play on such a ground. We wanted to save him for Tampines."

Aw is keen for his charges to keep their heads level and start going on a good run again, as they try to keep pace with the trio of Brunei DPMM, Albirex Niigata (S) and Warriors FC.

"Going into the game this Sunday, we need to work hard and prepare well as a team," he insisted. "We've been playing well for the whole season, but we haven't been able to finish [our chances]... hopefully we [can] keep the goal-scoring going."

They will fancy their chances against V. Sundramoorthy's men, whom they beat 2-0 earlier in the corresponding fixture in March at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Their fellow domestic giants are stuck in a bit of a rut themselves, having suffered three defeats and two draws in their last five matches. That has left the Stags, tipped as strong title favourites before the campaign, languishing in the bottom half of the table at seventh.

Finding the net seems to be a problem for them this season as well, with their haul of nine goals from nine matches the third-lowest tally in the league.

Sundram will hope the partnership between strike duo Rodrigo Tosi and Mateo Roskam, who only returned recently from injury, will finally come good as they seek to avenge their March defeat against the Protectors.
