Hougang coach Salim looks to Man United and Arsenal for inspiration

Hougang United coach Salim Moin believes his side have what it takes to recover from a poor start to the 2015 Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League season, which has seen them draw three and lose four of their opening seven games.

Speaking to ESPN FC after Saturday night's 1-0 home defeat to Balestier Khalsa, the former national player cited examples from English sides Arsenal and Manchester United, who have turned around indifferent form in the English Premier League season.

"Of course there's pressure (since we haven't got a win)," he said. "But I told them to believe in themselves and keep working together as a team.

"Look at Arsenal and Manchester United: where were they at the beginning of the season? They were number seven, number eight or number 10, then fans criticise Arsene Wenger and (Louis) Van Gaal about tinkering and so forth.

"Everyone say that Wenger and Van Gaal will be sacked, but they still worked together. It's important to learn how to work together, believe and encourage one another. Wenger believe in his players and builds up motivation to the team, now where are they?

"I'm not telling my players they are Arsenal or Man United, but it's the same situation here. What I want to put across is their togetherness and belief. It's not easy to build a team of new faces, but I think if we can start to score goals, we'll be very motivated (to turn things around)."

Hougang United will host Malaysian side Harimau Muda on Apr. 23 in their next S.League game.
