S.League: Hougang targeting first win of 2015 against Harimau Muda

Hougang United are looking to register their first victory of the 2015 Great Eastern Yeo's S.League season when they host Harimau Muda on Thursday night.

With three draws and four defeats, Salim Moin's charges are one of the two teams who are yet to register a win, the other being Courts Young Lions.

Hougang languish in ninth position in the standings in the ten-team competition. They will be up against a resurgent Young Tigers side, who have won three successive games after losing the first three.

Harimau Muda's victory against the Young Lions was followed by a shock triumph over giants Home United, before Geylang International were dispatched as well on Monday night.

For the Malaysian side, the likes of Adam Nor Azlin and Akhir Bahari are skilful prospects, while Syafwan Syahlan and Ridzuan Abduloh pose veritable goal threats.

Hougang winger Fareez Farhan is aware of the qualities Razip Ismail's "disciplined" young team possess having faced them in the past. "They keep running for the entire 90 minutes and they can play very good football; they will be very hard opponents for us," he told ESPN FC. "However, our players are so eager to win and we will be really pumped up to get a good result."

The fleet-footed attacker added that the Cheetahs could take advantage of their opponents' relative lack of experience, although he acknowledged that they have to be more clinical.

Only the Young Lions have scored less than Hougang's league tally of four and Fareez said: "Our problem is more of needing to finish off the chances, rather than creating them. Once that part of our game is settled, I believe the club will be getting a lot of good results."

The 20-year-old is grateful to Hougang for having faith in his ability to play regular football again, having not notched a single minute during his time at the Young Lions last season.

"I proved myself a lot in pre-season and got some good goals," said Fareez, who has made five appearances in seven matches, including one as a substitute. "I worked really hard and earned my first eleven spot and I believe I am getting better.

"I owe Hougang a lot for believing in me and handing me the opportunity to play [again]."

Fareez also admitted being upset at not being included in the provisional SEA Games squad that was announced last week.

"I am disappointed to be left out of the 30-man squad despite my performances," he said. "Nonetheless, I will take it as motivation to work harder."
