S.League: Stags bank on Alam Shah and Indra to produce the goods

Title contenders Tampines Rovers will be hoping to bounce back from last week's 2-0 defeat to Home United as they host Hougang United in the Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League on Wednesday night.

However they have to do it once again without the injured strike duo of Fabrice Noel and Mateo Roskam, leaving coach V Sundramoorthy with former national team forwards Noh Alam Shah and Indra Sahdan as the only viable options upfront.

Both have yet to open their goalscoring accounts yet, with Alam Shah missing a couple of gilt-edged chances the last time out while Indra has been mainly used as an impact substitute.

Speaking to ESPN FC before the game, the Dazzler is keeping the faith that the duo can produce the goods in the void of the two foreign forwards.

"Fabrice and Mateo are injured and to be missing them is a big impact so we need a plan B to move forward," he said.

"That's the reason why Alam and Indra are here because we need to count on them on times like this. The two of them have been amazing in training so far; motivating and guiding the younger boys.

"It's good that they have the experience and composure at this level as we will be looking to bounce back against Hougang."

While Noel and Roskam continue to miss out, Croatian midfielder Roberto Alviz will return from his one-match suspension -- a timely boost for the Stags as they seek to return to winning ways.

"It's good to have Alviz back because he will add more steel to our midfield," he said.

"He has good passing and takes good shots as well. Basically the goals that we conceded against Home were down to individual errors and we just need to make some corrections on that.

"I've faith in the whole team; the boys have been playing in the league for a long time and are matured enough. It's about gelling together and they'll be okay."

Currently sitting in second place with two wins and one loss thus far, Sundram is hoping for victory against an unbeaten Hougang side -- Salim Moin's men have three consecutive draws since the start of the campaign -- before the league comes to a halt for the international break.

"Basically all the teams in the league this year are strong teams and given their form, Hougang will be in good spirits," said the 49-year-old.

"But it's all about us and how're we going to turn up on the day. It's important that we get a win to keep pace with the leaders before the break and hopefully we will get our injured players back thereafter."
