Oguchi Onyewu joins Wednesday

U.S. international defender Oguchi Onyewu has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, the club announced on Saturday.

Oguchi Onyewu will play with Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season.

Wednesday, who play in England's second-tier Championship, signed Onyewu until the end of the season.

Onyewu, 31, has struggled to find consistent playing time since suffering a knee injury under contract to AC Milan in 2009. He played sparingly for Malaga last season.

Onyewu joined Queens Park Rangers in October but did not play in a game.

The tall centre-back has 68 caps with the U.S. national team but is likely a longshot to make the World Cup squad. He played in one World Cup qualifier in 2013, as well as the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
