Sevilla want 'exhilarating' show at Old Trafford in Champions League - chief

Sevilla president Pepe Castro is hoping his club not only win but also produce an "exhilarating" show at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester United next week.

The club managed to avoid conceding a crucial away goal in the scoreless draw in the first leg and were denied a win by great goalkeeping from Spain international David De Gea.

Sevilla, the five-time Europa League winners, have not reached the quarterfinals of Europe's elite club competition since 1958. They were knocked out at this stage last season after falling to Leicester City.

"We are hoping to do something exhilarating at Old Trafford after not scoring a goal that we deserved in the opening leg," Castro told Radio Sevilla FC. "I would sign right now to win 1-0 against Valencia and draw 1-1 at Manchester."

Sevilla will warm up for the encounter on March 13 with Saturday's home La Liga game against Valencia.

They have won their last two league games while keeping a clean sheet and are hoping to close their eight-point gap with Valencia, who are fourth in La Liga.

Castro also said he was pleased with his decision to part company with Eduardo Berizzo and appoint Vincenzo Montella as coach in December.

Berizzo was sacked after less than six months in charge and one month after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

"I think we made the right choice as Montella has won 10 games since he arrived and we are happy," Castro said. "I hope Montella can take us to what we all Sevilla fans dream of.

"We didn't have bad results with the previous coach but the club were brave enough to make the change despite being fifth in the standings. It was tough to have to dismiss an extraordinary person but the vibes we had were that we were not getting enough for the financial effort the club had made, [which was] perhaps the biggest in its history."
