Negredo talks up move to England

Alvaro Negredo has reiterated his desire to play in the Premier League and says Sevilla’s financial woes could see him being sold sooner rather than later.

Alvaro Negredo has been on hot form
Alvaro Negredo has been attracting interest in England for some time

Negredo, 27, has 15 goals in 26 La Liga games this season, despite on and off the pitch troubles which see the Spanish club sitting tenth in the table and key players being sold amid rumours of wages going unpaid.

Speaking with Estadio Deportivo while on duty with Spain ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Finland in Gijon, the striker said he was sure he would play in England some day.

"I have always said it, I have never hidden it,” Negredo said. “It is a league that I like. I do not know if it will be soon, or maybe further down the road, or tomorrow, but I will play there.”

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has gone on record recently to say his club would likely have to sell players in the summer to meet their mounting debts. He has reportedly turned down past bids for Negredo, including attempts last January by both Everton and Tottenham.

The Madrid-born forward said he had no direct knowledge of which clubs had bid for him, but suggested a higher offer next summer might have more luck.

“The president received some offers, but he did not accept them,” he said. “Nobody said anything directly to me, and it was not the right moment to leave. I do not know what will happen in the future. It depends on what the club wants and what it needs.”
