Sevilla to bring in Beto

Sevilla are close to signing Braga goalkeeper Beto on loan until the end of the season, to fill the gap left by Diego Lopez’s move to Real Madrid.

Lopez’s €3.5 million departure last weekend left Sevilla with just one senior keeper in Andres Palop. A hamstring injury to Palop, 39, though, led to B-team player Julian making his La Liga debut in Monday night’s 3-0 win over Granada at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

While Palop is expected to recover in time for Thursday’s Copa del Rey semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid, Beto, 30, could sign in time to be included in the squad for that game, according to Seville paper Estadio Deportivo.

Beto was a back-up keeper in Portugal's Euro 2012 squad last summer. A regular for Braga, he played both Champions League group games against Manchester United last autumn, conceding three times in each game. His move to Sevilla could include a deal to sign permanently in the summer.

The move for the Braga keeper is likely to end the La Liga club’s interest in Poland international and PSV Eindhoven stopper Przemyslaw Tyton, whose agent had spoken publicly about a possible move to Andalucia.

The last days of the transfer window may also bring further business at Sevilla, as defender Federico Fazio could still complete a €6 million move to Zenit St Petersburg, according to one of his agents Alvaro Torres.

“We must be prudent,” Torres told AS. “In these moments anything can happen, although I think he will play [against Atletico]. The agreement could be close, but it might fall through, you never know.”
