Michel prepared for Sevilla exodus

Sevilla coach Michel has admitted he could lose some of his star players this month, as the Andalucian club continue to loan out squad members to help ease their financial concerns.

Michel is realistic about his club's situation

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido last week claimed to have turned down a €16 million bid from an unnamed club for striker Alvaro Negredo - who is said to be of interest to Newcastle and Tottenham - while persistent reports in Spain claim that Lokomotiv Moscow boss Slaven Bilic is keen to sign his former Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic, with a €10 million bid in the offing.

Michel said at a press conference on Tuesday that a lot could happen before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

“Until January 31 anything could happen, a spectacular offer could arrive and nobody knows,” he said. “(But) we will not lower the level of the squad, we are not that needy.”

The Andalucians did lower their wage bill earlier in the window by allowing reserve centre-half Bernardo to join Sporting Gijon on loan, while on Tuesday squad-player Santiago Luna joined Real Mallorca until the end of the season. Reserve midfielder Javi Hervas looks set to be next out, with a loan move to second-tier side Almeria expected to be sealed on Wednesday.

Michel also told reporters on Tuesday that the club were currently considering loan offers for two other unnamed players, which the club’s own television channel soon revealed to be versatile attacker Manu del Moral and long serving left-back Fernando Navarro.

“We have alternatives prepared for all positions,” Michel said. “I am informed about all the possibilities, those leaving and those who could come in.”

Meanwhile, Portugal international Hugo Almeida, regularly linked with a move to La Liga in recent transfer windows, has told Turkish reporters he could be on his way to Sevilla, however, a move would only happen if the club were able to raise funds by moving players on.

“I do not believe that Sevilla have the money to sign me,” Almeida was reported as saying by Estadio Deportivo. “They will need to sell some players due to their financial problems.”

Bosnia international Miroslav Stevanovic, who arrived at Sevilla from Serbian club Vojvodina in a €1.5 million deal last week, could make his debut in Wednesday's Copa del Rey last 16 second leg at home to Real Mallorca, for which the rojiblancos hold a 5-0 advantage from December’s first game.

Michel said he was still not sure where Stevanovic would fit into the team, given his natural position was the same as that of club captain Jesus Navas.

“He is versatile, although his natural position is on the right wing,” he said. “He can play other positions, mediapunta (number 10) and on the left. To be able to play in Navas’s position will not be so easy.”
