Barcelona shirt sales beating Rangers and Celtic combined - report

Sales of Barcelona shirts have outstripped Rangers and Celtic in Glasgow, according to the Daily Record.

Teams have been revealing their new kits ahead of the 2015-16 season, and Barcelona's has proved particularly popular in Scotland after their Treble-winning campaign.

Scottish newspaper Daily Record reports "retailers have been forced to reorder within days and stores say sales and pre-orders are up 130 percent on last year."

Miller Greaves, director of Greaves Sports in Glasgow, said: "We always knew it was going to be popular but it has been better than expected.

"We've sold a couple of hundred jerseys, easily more than the Old Firm combined.

"I think the popularity is partly down to them winning the Champions League and also the fact this year isn't an international tournament year. There haven't been any new football kits since October last year."

A spokeswoman for JD Sports said: "The Barcelona kit is far outstripping expectations. We put this down to a few things.

"There's obviously the success of the team in the Champions League and all the media hype around Messi but there's also a change in the design -- it's gone from vertical stripes to horizontal hoops."

John Nisbet, from DW Sports, added: "It outsells Celtic and Rangers individually and we probably get asked for it three or four times a day."
