Queen of the South will be without a handful of players against Livingston.

Chris Higgins is suspended while Chris Mitchell (back), Mark Kerr (hamstring), Paul Burns (knee) and Stephen McKenna (hip) are all absent through injury.

But Palmerston manager Jim McIntyre is looking for his men to start the season with a bang, he said: "We have kept a fairly settled squad whereas Livingston have eight new players, so whilst they know us we do not know them as well.

"However, we are at home against a side we had close games with last season and it would be great to open up our season with a win in front of our fans."

Livingston travel to Dumfries without the injured pair of Simon Mensing (knee) and Keaghan Jacobs (broken leg), while defender Jason Talbot will also sit it out because of a ban.

Goalkeeper Kevin Walker faces a fitness test with manager John McGlynn set to include all of his new recruits.

McGlynn said: "Playing away from home to a team in your league is a tough start to the season. However, I am pretty sure that their manager Jim McIntyre will be saying the same thing about facing us.

``We have recast our squad quite considerably and it looks like we have gelled together well but this will be a real test."
