Dunfermline are through to the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup after a 5-1 victory against Annan at East End Park.
The Pars might have been forgiven for being a little ring-rusty after their scheduled opening game of the season against Raith last weekend in the Petrofac Training Cup was postponed following a rainstorm, but they had too much for their League Two opponents.
Alex Whittle opened the scoring with a rising shot from inside the area after 24 minutes before Gregor Buchanan's header nine minutes before half-time.
Annan went close when Josh Todd's shot struck the crossbar but Michael Moffat's low finish right at the start of the second half put Dunfermline out of sight.
David Hopkirk did pull a goal back with a tidy finish after 57 minutes but the Pars restored their three-goal cushion through Ryan Wallace's 71st-minute strike, and Lewis Martin completed the rout with a low effort late on.
