Radoslaw Cierzniak was the hero as Dundee United reached the Scottish League Cup semi-finals on penalties following an enthralling 120 minutes of action at Easter Road.

The United goalkeeper saved from Matthew Kennedy and David Gray as United won 7-6 in the shoot-out after a 3-3 draw with hosts Hibernian.

United went ahead twice in seven first-half minutes through Chris Erskine and Aidan Connolly, with Dominique Malonga netting in between.

Ryan Dow's glancing header put United back in front on the hour...

Adam Rooney netted the only goal of the game as Aberdeen overcame the stiff resistance of Hamilton Academical to progress to the semi-finals of the League Cup.

The Dons now move a step closer to retaining the trophy they picked up last year, but the star of the show was Accies keeper Michael McGovern.

There was little he could do to stop Rooney's diving header in the 24th minute but after that he pulled off a string of fine stops to prevent the scoreline being any worse for his team.

For the most part,...

Hat-trick hero John Guidetti claimed Rangers or any other of Celtic's Scottish League Cup semi-final opponents will be ``going down'' if they are drawn against the Parkhead men.

The 22-year-old Swede, on loan from Manchester City, took his tally to eight in eight games for the Hoops with two wonderful free-kicks and a penalty in the 6-0 quarter-final thrashing of Partick Thistle at Celtic Park.

Substitute Leigh Griffiths grabbed a brace and left-back Emilio Izaguirre also notched as Ronny Deila's side...

Rangers put another week of off-field drama behind them as Lewis Macleod's late goal gave them a 1-0 League Cup quarter-final victory over St Johnstone at Ibrox.

While the pre-match headlines were dominated by Mike Ashley's power grab, Ally McCoist's side had to focus on beating last season's William Hill Scottish Cup winners.

It was not pretty but the crisis-hit Glasgow giants got the job done after Macleod glanced home a header just four minutes from time.

Gers had to do it without the usual noisy...

Teenager Craig Watson was the sudden-death hero as Hamilton knocked Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell out of the League Cup.

Watson sealed a 6-5 victory on penalties following a goalless third-round tie at New Douglas Park that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

After a tight opening half, Hamilton had Stephen Hendrie sent off in the 65th minute for a second foul on Lionel Ainsworth and Motherwell had chances to win it before and after the end of the 90 minutes.

But Michael McGovern produced a brilliant...
