Former Newcastle director of football Derek Llambias is due to fly into Glasgow on Monday night to begin work at Rangers, Press Association Sport has reported.

His expected arrival follows confirmation that a two million-pound loan from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has been accepted by the Scottish club and is a further indication of Ashley's increasing influence at Ibrox.

The resignation of Graham Wallace as Rangers chief executive was confirmed on Monday morning, two days after he failed to stop Ashley tightening his grip on the Glasgow club.

His departure was confirmed in a 7 a.m. statement to the Stock Exchange. A separate statement to the AIM -- a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange -- said Rangers had accepted the loan, effectively handing control to Ashley.

As part of the deal, Ashley will be allowed to replace Wallace and former finance director Philip Nash, who resigned on Friday, with his own directors.

Llambias is expected to be the first arrival, with reports suggesting that Stephen Mucklow will follow soon afterwards.

Wallace's exit sparked speculation that boss Ally McCoist could be next out of the Ibrox door, but football board chairman Sandy Easdale told STV: "He is the manager and he continues to be the manager.

"We have not got any ideas of changing the manager. That is not on the agenda.''

Ashley's loan will give Rangers some much-needed breathing space following rumours that the club were due to run out of cash on Tuesday.

He owns 8.92 percent of the club, and although he is prohibited from owning more than 10 percent while owning Newcastle after an agreement with the Scottish Football Association three years ago, he runs the club's retail division and holds naming rights to the stadium.
