Mike Ashley no 'threat' to Rangers, says president Dave King

Newcastle fans are eagerly anticipating to see who owner Mike Ashley appoints as new manager.
Mike Ashley still has an influence at Rangers despite Dave King's appointment as chairman.

New Rangers chairman Dave King insists the club are not at war with Mike Ashley -- and says their troubles with the Newcastle chief are "just business."

King even believes the Light Blues faithful should be "grateful'' for the handouts the Sports Direct boss has given the club in recent months.

The South Africa-based millionaire was speaking at Ibrox for the first time since being passed fit and proper by the Scottish Football Association on Tuesday.

He will officially take to the Gers throne on...

Prospective Rangers chairman Dave King declared 'fit and proper' by SFA

Dave King (centre) is Rangers' prospective chairman.

Dave King's application to sit on the Rangers board has been approved by the Scottish Football Association board.

The SFA said it was satisfied that prospective Rangers chairman King was a "fit and proper" person with regards to its rules.

King had to argue his case in light of his previous directorship with oldco Rangers before they went into liquidation and also because of his convictions for tax offences in South Africa.

The Rangers shareholder had swept to power with his allies following a general...

Daryll Meggatt was the hero as Alloa overcame a two-goal first-leg deficit and a one-man disadvantage to beat Forfar 3-0 and preserve their Scottish Championship status.

The Wasps lost 3-1 in the away leg of the play-off final but goals from Michael Chopra and Liam Buchanan got them level before Meggatt struck late on to complete a stunning turnaround.

The aggregate victory was all the more remarkable given substitute Graeme Holmes was sent off with 17 minutes remaining.

Alloa have it all to do to stay in the Scottish Championship after League One Forfar triumphed 3-1 in the first leg of the play-off final.

The Loons, who finished third in the third tier, gave their second-tier visitors a rough ride and won it thanks to goals from Omar Kader, Christopher Templeman and Michael Travis.

Kader tapped home after a howler from Alloa goalkeeper John Gibson, who spilled Templeman's effort with the game only 10 minutes old.

Gibson went some way to atoning for that error when...

Alloa put themselves firmly in command of their Championship play-off semi-final after claiming a 2-0 win at Brechin.

The Championship's second bottom side started well but it took until the 21st minute for them to create the first chance of the evening, Michael Doyle hooking his shot wide after good work from Mark Docherty.

Michael Chopra fired wide before Docherty was not too far away with an audacious chipped attempt that cleared the crossbar.

Iain Flannigan had the best chance of the half in stoppage-time...
