Schalke boss wants Sane to stay

Naldo: Wolfsburg did not fight for me

Meyer to commit to Schalke over Blues

Schalke youngster Max Meyer is delighted about the recent reported interest from Chelsea and Fiorentina, but says his priority is to sign a new contract with the Royal Blues.

Several German news outlets claimed last week that Chelsea are ready to table a 15-million-euro offer for Meyer, 18.

However, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt told kicker at the weekend that the Blues have yet to make a move for the midfielder, who has made just 14 Bundesliga appearances.

“There is no official offer from Chelsea,” he said. “But I have heard about their interest.”

Meyer is contracted to Schalke until 2017, but media reports suggest that he has an 18-million-euro release clause in his current deal.

According to Heldt, Fiorentina have already made an offer for the player, with Liverpool also reportedly hoping to lure Meyer away from Germany.

“It delights me that there is so much interest in me,” Meyer told reporters after Schalke’s 3-1 victory against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

When asked about the interest from Chelsea, he replied: “I’ve only read about it in the papers and I am the wrong person to talk to about it. My agent takes care of it.”

However, it appears that Meyer has no plans to leave the Royal Blues anytime soon, and hopes to sign a new deal at the club.

“I feel great here at Schalke, I get a lot of trust from the coach and the board,” he said. “I am under contract until 2017. We are having good talks, and I hope we can reach an agreement soon -- I think this year.”

Speaking to Bild, Meyer’s agent, Thorsten Weck, also said his client has no plans to leave Schalke, and that the club is the right place for him to “develop ideally”.
